Home Inspections in 2008
PREPARING to buy a home to live in really meticulous. If you want to transfer here in Salamanca and you are a British citizen, there are lots of documents to be processed and there are lots of things to do. You must not just be financially prepared to live here; you must also be psychologically prepared. And the preparation becomes a multiple one if you are having a family in tow. And all the more so if your children are more than one.
Buying a house in Salamanca is definitely not a one-week process. You must plan this for at least two years. Living as a British expat here is ideal for people who accumulated much wealth in their lifetime and retire at the age of 40. Of course, British government workers involved in high-risk jobs such as firefighters and soldiers retire at the age of 40 and given humongous pension. This pension they later buy a house and lot here in Salamanca.
Salamanca is one nice place to live in 2008 because it is a melting pot of tourists. Aside from British expats, there are also lots of American and Scandinavian visitors here. But in coming here in Salamanca, you must not buy a house immediately. You first need to scout which place in Salamanca where you can buy the best villa or the best manor or the best condominium. And you must come here twice during the year – once in winter and once during summer – to get a feel of the place. Remember that this is not a Mediterranean area and winters here can be too cold although not as cold as it is in the Pyrenees and the Garabandal area. However, you still need to don a jacket. However, don’t use cottony jackets because cotton tends to absorb moisture. However, summer can be gay here because there are lots of festivals especially during Holy Week.
Another meticulous preparation that must be underway is to prepare all your passports in going here scouting for a house. You must bring your family with you because it will serve as a winter and summer vacation. Of course, if your whole family has passports already, then you have no problem. And if you have a dog or a cat, then there are three solutions for it – a) you let a relative live in your house momentarily, b) you let your neighbor have the keys in your house to feed your dog or cat, or c) you tell your neighbor to adopt your dog or cat in his house momentarily.
Then in coming here and upon renting a car, you must be prepared to drive at the left side of the road because that’s how roads in Spain are unlike those in Britain.
